2022 Honda Civic Safety Features and Safety Ratings

Here at Honda, we priorities safety. We believe it is our duty to continually set the standard for Active and Passive safety in compact vehicles. There is no doubt that the 2022 Civic Sedan will be as unique as the 2021 model, and this is why:

Improved Body Structure

The Advanced Compatibility Engineering^™ (ACE^™) body structure in the new Civic Sedan has been re-engineered to better protect Honda users and users of larger vehicles in the event of a collision. This re-engineering includes improved occupant protection in angled frontal collisions, with a new upper A-pillar structure, side frame, and lower firewall structure designed to route crash energy around the cabin. Side impact protection also has been improved, with stiffer structures in the roof, side sill and B-pillar, doors, and the rear wheel arch and C-pillar.

The new material in the pillars, roof, doors, and side seals are designed to reduce the formation of the cabin area if an accident occurs. Paying close attention to safety, it is no surprise Honda will be one of the first to meet future NHTSA (National Highway Traffic Safety Administration) oblique crash test standards.

New Airbag Technologies

The 2022 Honda Civic Sedan not only has the exceptional crash-worthy safety technology of last year, technology that is well-complimented by IIHS, but it also has new front driver/passenger airbags. These new and improved airbags aid in preventing head rotation in different types of collisions. The objective was to create an airbag system that reduces the chances of brain injury in certain accidents.

The new front driver’s airbag uses an advanced donut-shaped structure to cradle and hold the head to reduce rotation. The passenger-side front airbag uses a three-chamber design to obtain a similar result, with two outer chambers designed to cradle and control head rotation. These new technologies being included in future models will add to the advancement of car-collision safety and save so many lives of Honda users.

Single Camera System

The 2022 model comes standard with Honda Sensing but with new features that give drivers exceptional visibility. This new Honda Sensing suite comes with a single-camera system that expands the driver’s view and surpasses the previous radar-and-camera-based system. The single-camera system is quicker and more precise at identifying pedestrians, cyclists, and other vehicles.

These refined responses are achieved by the Blind Spot Information Center, which are indicators on your side rear-view mirrors that blink when another vehicle is in potential rear blind spots. And the Rear Parking Sensors, which aid in backing into tighter parking spaces more efficiently than older models that have the camera-based Lane Watch. The camera-based Lane Watch only works on the right side of the vehicle. The previous camera system provides excellent visual safety features, but the 2022 Civic is the next level up.

Additional Features

• Traffic Sign Recognition System – A windshield-mounted camera that captures traffic signs while you’re driving and displays your current speed limits in the Driver Information Interface.
• Traffic Jam Assist – The system functions with adaptive cruise and lane-keep assist to keep the 2022 Civic centered in its lane and maintain distance from the vehicle in front in low-speed, high traffic situations. The adaptive cruise system also offers a low-speed follow that will start and stop the 2022 Civic to go with traffic flow.
• Low-Speed Braking Control – When driving forward or backing up at low speeds, the Low-Speed Braking Control is designed to detect objects in front of or behind the vehicle and apply the brakes to prevent a collision or mitigate its effects.

Honda is setting new standards for active and passive safety in compact cars. As last year’s model, the 2022 Civic should receive the same ratings, if not better. There is no question that the new 2022 Honda Civic Sedan is one of the safest cars for everyone.
