For nearly 25 years, the Honda Civic Type R has delivered speed, performance, and unique styling in the hot-hatch market. The latest iteration – the 2023 Honda Civic Type R – continues the tradition but has upped the game with the fastest powertrain in Honda history. In its eleventh generation, the newest Type R has a restyled front and rear bumper, a unique rear spoiler, and the three iconic centralized exhaust ports.

Adrenaline-Pumping Performance

The 2023 Honda Civic Type R has a turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine with a rev-match-system six-speed manual transmission with an upgraded cooling system and new exhaust. The sport-tuned engine with a redesigned turbocharger delivers 315 horsepower and 310 lb-ft of torque, which is better than the 2022 specs of 306 horsepower and 295 lb-ft of torque. The standard Civic Hatchback models come with an automatic transmission, but a 2023 Honda Civic Type R automatic transmission is not available.

To access the 2023 Honda Civic Type R horsepower, the hot hatch comes with a big +R button on the center console. Drivers can also keep it real with the Comfort and Sport modes. The newest feature is an Individual mode for powertrain preferences.

Honda enhanced the suspension and steering that helped the Civic Type R set a new track record in Japan after tuning the car in Nurburgring in Germany. Despite the engine upgrades and suspension tweaking, Honda put 19-inch wheels with matte-black 10-spoke rims. In typical Type R style, the Brembo performance brakes have red-painted calipers.

Minimalistic and Sporty Interior Features

While Type R drivers are more concerned with performance over safety, Honda does include the Honda Sensing technology in the hatchback. The 2023 Civic Type R has Adaptive Cruise Control, Forward Collision Warning, Automatic Emergency Braking, Lane Departure Warning, Lane Keeping Assist, Lane Centering Assist, and Blind Spot Warning with Rear Cross-Traffic Warning.

The 2023 Honda Civic Type R interior will be outfitted with the same technology as the Civic Sport Touring hatchback. It will include a 9.0-inch touchscreen with Bluetooth, wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, SiriusXM Satellite Radio, wireless phone charging, and a 12-speaker Bose premium audio system. The digital instrument panel measures 10.2-inches and has an exclusive +R driving mode setting.

The interior features sports seats trimmed in red, exclusive Type R pedals, an aluminum shift knob, and silver trim on the center console.
